SenSource Sponsors Tech Event Organized by the Penguin Hackers of Youngstown State University
As part of its mission to give back to the community through the fostering of technological growth and innovation, SenSource sponsored the HackYSU 2020 hack-a-thon organized by the Penguin Hackers of Youngstown State University.
During the event, over 100 participants tried to build new software, hardware, and other technology-related projects over a 36 consecutive hour span. Students ranged in age from 9th grade through recent college graduates and came from several local universities to compete for a range of prizes.
In addition to financial assistance, representatives from SenSource provided mentorship for students as they built their projects and Jeremy Forsythe, Director of Software Engineering at SenSource, presented an educational talk to participants on automating the DevOps cycle using Infrastructure-as-Code tool, Terraform.
Participants produced truly amazing projects in the short time span, including an online multiplayer 3D capture-the-flag game complete with custom soundtrack, a Bluetooth app-controlled RipStik, an app to show what recipes you can make based on the contents of your pantry, and a security research paper on proactive mitigation of ransomware.
